1. Learning Outcomes#

employee_id name department city
101 Asha HR Pune
102 Rahul IT Mumbai
103 Neha Sales Nashik

Asha, Pune, 103, Sales, Rahul, HR, Mumbai, Neha, 101, IT, Nashik, 102

Key Idea

3. Table

Definition#

English Definition

A table is a structured collection of related data organized into rows and columns.

  • employee ID
  • name
  • department
  • city

Table = related data ठेवण्याची structured जागा

आपल्या example मध्ये:

employees = table

  • employee_id
  • name
  • department
  • city

Visual Diagram80%

Rendering diagram…

  • columns
  • rows

Columns

Rows

4. Column

employee_id name department city
101 Asha HR Pune
102 Rahul IT Mumbai
103 Neha Sales Nashik

employee_id

name

department

city

Column

Column

department

Show Answer

city

Show Answer

Remember

5. Attribute

  • employee ID
  • name
  • department
  • city

Employee ID employee_id column
Name name column
Department department column
City city column

Beginner level

Attribute = एखाद्या गोष्टीची property

Column = table मध्ये त्या property साठी तयार केलेली जागा

Key Idea

6. Row

employee_id name department city
101 Asha HR Pune
102 Rahul IT Mumbai
103 Neha Sales Nashik

पहिला data row:

employee_id name department city
101 Asha HR Pune

  • ID = 101
  • name = Asha
  • department = HR
  • city = Pune

employee_id name department city
102 Rahul IT Mumbai

Column

Row

city column:

"Employee ची city कोणती?"

Row 101:

7. Record

employee_id name department city
101 Asha HR Pune

Row ≈ Record

Pune

हे visually पाहूया:

Visual Diagram80%

Rendering diagram…

Specific value

Asha चा row + city column = Pune

9. Basic Table Structure

employee_id name department city
101 Asha HR Pune
102 Rahul IT Mumbai
103 Neha Sales Nashik

या structure मध्ये:

Table Name#

Columns#

चार columns आहेत:

  • employee_id
  • name
  • department
  • city

Rows#

Values#

Employee 102

employee_id → 102

name → Rahul

department → IT

city → Mumbai

employee_id name department city
101 Asha HR Pune
102 Rahul IT Mumbai

employee_id, name, department, city

Actual data rows

  • columns = 4
  • employee data rows = 2

Common Mistake

Table display मधील column headings ना actual data record समजू नका.

Table:

products

product_id product_name price category
501 Keyboard 1200 Electronics
502 Notebook 80 Stationery
503 Mouse 700 Electronics

Table

products

Columns

  • product_id
  • product_name
  • price
  • category

product_id product_name price category
502 Notebook 80 Stationery

Record

Attributes

Product बद्दलच्या properties:

  • product ID
  • product name
  • price
  • category

Remember

Columns सांगतात what information is stored.

Rows सांगतात which individual item's information is stored.

ID: 104 Name: Sameer Department: Finance City: Pune

employee_id name department city
101 Asha HR Pune
102 Rahul IT Mumbai
103 Neha Sales Nashik
104 Sameer Finance Pune

Columns

Rows

Conceptually table

employee_id name department city email
101 Asha HR Pune asha@example.com
102 Rahul IT Mumbai rahul@example.com

नवीन person/item आला?

Column#

  • name
  • department
  • city
  • price

Row#

  • Asha
  • Rahul
  • Keyboard
  • Notebook

Column = property/category

Row = one item's related values

15. Common Beginner Mistakes#

  • Pune
  • Mumbai
  • IT
  • Nashik

IT ही city नाही.

  • 101
  • Asha
  • HR
  • Pune

Column names data

Common Mistake

E-commerce application

  • products
  • customers
  • orders

Training platform

  • users
  • courses
  • chapters

Company HR system

  • employees
  • departments
  • attendance

Self-Check#

खालील table पाहा:

student_id student_name course
1 Riya Java
2 Aman Python
3 Sneha SQL

student_name काय आहे?

उत्तर: column.

Aman

2 | Aman | Python

18. Hands-On Practice#

Practice 1#

Requirement

खालील table पाहा:

book_id title author price
11 Clean Code Robert Martin 650
12 Java Basics Anita Rao 400
13 SQL Guide Ravi Shah 350

Your Task

  1. किती columns आहेत?
  2. किती data rows आहेत?
  3. author
HintShow Hint

SolutionShow Solution
  1. 4 columns
  2. 3 data rows
  3. author हा column आहे.

Explanation

Practice 2#

Requirement

  • course ID
  • course name
  • teaching language
  • price

तीन courses आहेत:

  • 1, Java, Marathi, 1500
  • 2, SQL, Marathi, 1200
  • 3, Python, English, 1800

Your Task

HintShow Hint

SolutionShow Solution
course_id course_name teaching_language price
1 Java Marathi 1500
2 SQL Marathi 1200
3 Python English 1800

Columns:

  • course_id
  • course_name
  • teaching_language
  • price

Rows:

  • Java course record
  • SQL course record
  • Python course record

Explanation

Practice 3#

Requirement

product_name category city
Keyboard Electronics Pune
Mouse 700 Mumbai

Your Task

HintShow Hint

SolutionShow Solution

Explanation

19. Interview Preparation#

What is a table in a database?Show Answer

A table is a structured collection of related data organized into rows and columns. Columns represent categories or attributes of the data, while rows represent individual records.

Key Points:

  • A table stores related data.
  • Data is organized into rows and columns.
  • Columns define the information being stored.
  • Rows represent individual records.

Why interviewer asks this:

The interviewer wants to verify that you understand the most basic structure used to organize relational data.

What is the difference between a row and a column?Show Answer

A row represents one complete record or instance in a table, while a column represents a specific attribute or category of information stored for all rows.

Key Points:

  • Row = one record.
  • Column = one type of information.
  • A row contains values across multiple columns.
  • A column contains the same category of information across multiple rows.

Why interviewer asks this:

This checks whether you can correctly interpret tabular data before working with SQL queries.

What is a record in a database table?Show Answer

A record commonly refers to one row in a table. It contains the related values that describe one item, person, event, or other entity represented by the table.

Key Points:

  • A record commonly corresponds to a row.
  • It contains related column values.
  • One employee row can be called one employee record.

Why interviewer asks this:

The term record is commonly used in development discussions, APIs, database work, and application code.

What is the relationship between an attribute and a column?Show Answer

An attribute describes a property of an entity, such as an employee's name or department. In a table, that attribute is typically represented by a column.

Key Points:

  • Attribute = property of an entity.
  • Column = table representation of that property.
  • The terms are closely related in practical database discussions.

Why interviewer asks this:

The interviewer wants to know whether you understand both conceptual data terminology and its table representation.

  • Column names actual data records

→ Column
→ Row
